Pat and Heidi got married today!

This sweet summer Saturday was made all the sweeter with a tender ceremony in a quiet garden at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Heidi and Pat chose a small intimate ceremony that focused on joining their two families together. Their attendants were their siblings and the cutest ring bearers and flower girls ever were their nieces and nephews. Heidi looked amazing in her lace gown from Che Bella and the couple chose muted hues of grey, blue, pink and ivory which gave everything a soft summery feel.

Family headed out while we stuck around the Arboretum to take advantage of the gardens in full bloom.

This image truly defines Heidi and Pat, I love it so much.

We then headed to Pat and Heidi’s house, to photograph them in their natural element, and to include their cute dog in some portraits! Considering they fell in love in the backyard of this house, it was very fitting to use the space for some pictures.

Friends and family arrived at Five Event Center to celebrate with the couple. It was beautifully decorated with soft romantic pinks and ivory and mercury glass. The Zacc Harris Trio entertained guests with jazz music as everyone enjoyed the amazing meal from Deco Catering. The evening was filled with laughter and great conversation, two things that naturally surround Heidi and Pat.

Ryan and Kelsey

Ryan and Kelsey were married today!

These two are a study of opposites. One is quiet, reserved and feels cold in 70 degrees. The other is boisterous, outgoing and wears shorts when it is 30 outside. But it takes being with them only a few moments to know they are just right for each other. They bring out the best in each other.

The ceremony and reception took place at the gorgeous Silverwood Park in St Anthony. While nervously checking the radar to see when the next thunderstorm would roll through, we headed outside for portraits. Minnesota threw all kinds of weather at us today, but man, the wedding party sure stayed fabulous the entire time!

A unique and fabulous angle to this wedding was inspired by the venue choice. Silverwood is passionate about preserving the environment and encourages recycling, composting and reusing as much as possible. So Kelsey and Ryan made their day a green wedding. Kelsey purchased her gown from Classy Consignments Bridal, the flowers were all silk so they could be reused, the couple used a tree that they will plant to symolize their unity, all the dinnerware was compostable or recyclable, and the whole day took place in one location to reduce emissions. Kelsey looked amazing! We loved photographing her in the lush green of the park….

…and the guys had fun with the park’s artwork. Goofballs.

The ceremony was very sweet, and ruled by mother nature. Halfway through the vows the wind picked up… Judge Armstrong started to speak at bit faster and the couple had to raise their voices to be heard. And then the rain came! Kelsey and Ryan were so awesome, they quickly finished the vows, put on the rings, said I do, gave a big ole kiss and then ran inside! They will have such a great story to tell about this experience! And of course as photographers, we loved every minute.

Once the guests had dried off and greeted the couple, it was time for the reception. The space was beautifully decorated, and guests enjoyed the comfort food provided at dinner by Famous Daves. After speeches and cake, Instant Request got the dance floor pumpin’ with a great mix of music. There were quiet a few…lets just use the word “enthusiastic” dancers that had us in stitches. These college and high school friends were a blast to watch.

Sheri and Melissa

Sheri and Melissa had their lovely northwoods destination wedding yesterday! This blog will be a tad longer than normal, 1) because we also photographed the rehearsal, 2) because Juilane James Place is such a beautiful location full of gorgeous nature, and 3) because Alyson of Bash Collective created some amazing details!

Sheri is someone who collects art, music and light…someone who loves the woods and the water. Melissa is easy going, low key, down to earth and quick to laugh and have a great time. Both ladies love to entertain, feed people, dance, hug, and love fiercely. This secluded cabin in the woods gave this couple the ability to combine everything they love in one fabulous weekend.

The rehearsal was followed with a homemade meal of scrumptious soups and bread next to a roaring fire.

Gifts were given, and happy tears accompanied the sweet words of gratitude and love.

Though snow was in the forecast the night before, and the weather looked iffy for the day of the wedding, we ended up having a stunning day. With peeks of sunshine though the autumn colors of the trees.

Sheri and Melissa both got ready in the cabin along with their ladies in waiting. Things were laid back and relaxed all morning.

Bash Collective did a stellar job with the floral arrangements. Using autumn jewel tones and unexpected textures, each arrangement was unique and lovely. The couple’s literature theme carried throughout the day, from a library card catalog holding seating arrangements, to florals literally sprouting out of books on the tables. There were little unexpected details everywhere!

The natural beauty of the woods was its own character that day. We stumbled across these lichen and had to use them for the ring shot.

Melissa and Sheri had a sweet first sight followed by portraits in the woods. Their attire was designed by Sheri and custom made. The backs of the jackets included details from Melissa’s mother’s wedding gown. I felt like we were on a movie set getting these images!

Because all the ladies were dressed so regally, we had to try a very formal pose…

The moment I saw this woodshed, I knew we had to use it! I love venues that inspire!

Right before the ceremony, things got real and the emotion set in. Sheri and Melissa were just overwhelmed with how much their friends and family love them, and how important this day was. After some hugs and many MANY “I love yous” it was time for the ceremony.

After the ceremony, guests greeted the couple in an outdoor cocktail hour followed by a tented reception. The hand made farm tables were show stopping with their moss runners and book themed centerpieces. On top of orange chargers, there were specialty napkins made just for the wedding. Each napkin had a print of a love letter from Sheri’s grandparents.

For dinner, We Cater to You provided delicious comfort foods and featured a mashed potato bar, which had people coming back for seconds. Fried chicken plus a locally brewed beer was exactly what was needed on that chilly night! And to top it all off was pie from Keys Cafe. And then the craziness started. I’ve never been to a dance like this, it was rowdy and hilarious and joyful and sweet and crazy crazy crazy fun! Everett from Instant Request played such an amazing playlist of 80s and 90s music, even the vendors were commenting on how we couldn’t stop dancing along.

As all the guests boarded the last shuttle back to their hotels, the party kept going. It was definitely a weekend to remember!

David and Angela

David and Angela were married today!

The sunny winter day started off with a morning wedding at the Nazareth Chapel. Davie and Angie loved the architecture of the space, so we made sure to utilize that in our photography as much as possible.

There was even a dusting of fresh snow on the ground!

Angie was a vision walking down the aisle to the prelude of Bach’s Cello Suite Number 1, played beautifully by a family friend. There were plenty of happy tears from friends and family alike as they watched these two during the ceremony. Full of spirituality and love, the ceremony was so sweet, and everyone was very excited to see them tie the knot!

David and Angie wanted images that weren’t typical and that captured their love.

Though all the sweet kissy pictures are lovely, THIS image really shows their personalities…

The wedding party was so awesome braving the cold, but we didn’t keep them outside for too long!

After pictures we headed over to Hotel Sofitel for the reception. The ballroom was full of crystal chandaliers and frosted branches with evergreens. Ever After Sound used blue uplighting to transform this room into a winter wonderland. It was beautiful! A snowflake cake and a huge variety of cupcakes by Judy Berg Cakes added to the winter theme.

Hotel Sofitel has amazing service. From their front desk to the white glove food service, everyone was well taken care of. And the interior of the venue provides some really cool backdrops…

After a delicious meal, DJ Brian Glad got the party going. He definitely figured out the perfect mix of music to keep this crowd dancing! hint, there was a lot of Michael Jackson ; ) And when I say dancing, I mean DANCING. I have never laughed so hard at this group of crazies. THEY. HAD. FUN.

Colin and Ellen

Colin and Ellen were married today!

Ellen and Colin are such a fabulous couple. They love the outdoors and the more adventure the better…so it really wasn’t surprising that they were excited when the snow started falling. The bride wished for snow on her wedding day, and snow she got!

Ellen was simply stunning in her blue and white wedding gown. Her mother made the dress, basing the design off of an Oscar de le Renta pattern and incorporating detailed lace and luxurious fabrics. The bridesmaids also had hand-made dresses in varying shades of blues and neutrals. They carried bouquets of thistle, delphinium, greens and Ellen’s favorite…ferns. The guys looked dashing in suits from Heimies Haberdashery with bow ties that matched their bridesmaid’s dress. The boutonnieres had a personal touch with a couple coffee beans lining the stems to give a nod to how Ellen and Colin met…at a Dunn Brothers.

We started off with a sweet first sight and pictures at Silverwood Park. The couple’s well worn canoe was at the reception site to hold wedding gifts, so we utilized said canoe in some portraits. The wedding party was prepared for winter weather, wearing boots, long johns and furs, and they were troopers as we ran around in the snow taking pictures. We visited the Walker to get some indoor shots, and as we went out to the cars, an impromptu snow ball fight started.

Guests braved the icy roads and snow to arrive at Immanuel Lutheran just in time for the ceremony. Ellen walked down the aisle to dramatic organ music and incorporated lovely music throughout the ceremony. Sweet words were read and blessings were given and Colin and Ellen could not stop smiling at each other. In the car afterwards, they kept looking at each other and saying, “we’re married!” “hey! you’re my wife!”…and the happiness kept us going, even when a groomsman’s car got stuck on a hill and we trudged through the snow to get a few last shots before the sun disappeared.

At the reception, Colin’s Norwegian heritage was celebrated fully. Evergreens, ferns, birch and moss adorned tables washed in candlelight. Skol! was cheered after each speech and was sung to get the couple to kiss (I believe Colin was even referred to as a Viking warrior at one point). After a dinner served by Mintahoe, Kransekake was served for the guests and they were treated to an amazing coffee bar with custom lattes by Dogwood Coffee (an extra bonus, the reception hall smelled fabulous all night!). Two of Colin’s groomsmen spent months brewing beer and had cases of many varieties for guests to enjoy. Cigars came out later in the evening and were smoked by the outdoor fire as the snow tapered off, and the dance floor was hoping thanks to Lance from Humans Win!, DJ extraordinaire. Lance did a great job mixing the wide range of tunes these music lovers wanted at their dance. Playing in the snow continued as well, with the groomsmen pushing the bride and groom down a hill in the canoe! What a fun group =)
