Though there is nothing more classic than the “cherish, in good times and in bad” vows, sometimes it is fun to kick it up a notch.  Every part of a wedding can be personalized…though just like fashion and photography, if you go too trendy and in the moment, time will not be your friend (huge puffy sleeves, anyone?).

A tried and true source of romantic verse can easily be taken from Shakespeare, and I’ll give you just one example.  It is from scene II of the play As You Like It (paraphrased to work for vows).

“What ’tis to love.

It is to be all made of all sighs and tears;

It is to be all made of faith and service;

It is to be all made of fantasy,
All made of passion and all made of wishes,
All adoration, duty and observance,
All humbleness, all patience and impatience,
All purity, all trial, all observance.”

This could also easily be a wedding reading.  In the play, inbetween many of these phrases, the youth in love are saying, “And so I am for Phebe.  And I for Ganymede” etc.  So to make it vows, simply have a couple pauses where each of you say, “And so I am for (brides name).  And I for (grooms name).  I think it would be quite lovely.
