Ryan and Kelsey were married today!

These two are a study of opposites. One is quiet, reserved and feels cold in 70 degrees. The other is boisterous, outgoing and wears shorts when it is 30 outside. But it takes being with them only a few moments to know they are just right for each other. They bring out the best in each other.

The ceremony and reception took place at the gorgeous Silverwood Park in St Anthony. While nervously checking the radar to see when the next thunderstorm would roll through, we headed outside for portraits. Minnesota threw all kinds of weather at us today, but man, the wedding party sure stayed fabulous the entire time!

A unique and fabulous angle to this wedding was inspired by the venue choice. Silverwood is passionate about preserving the environment and encourages recycling, composting and reusing as much as possible. So Kelsey and Ryan made their day a green wedding. Kelsey purchased her gown from Classy Consignments Bridal, the flowers were all silk so they could be reused, the couple used a tree that they will plant to symolize their unity, all the dinnerware was compostable or recyclable, and the whole day took place in one location to reduce emissions. Kelsey looked amazing! We loved photographing her in the lush green of the park….

…and the guys had fun with the park’s artwork. Goofballs.

The ceremony was very sweet, and ruled by mother nature. Halfway through the vows the wind picked up… Judge Armstrong started to speak at bit faster and the couple had to raise their voices to be heard. And then the rain came! Kelsey and Ryan were so awesome, they quickly finished the vows, put on the rings, said I do, gave a big ole kiss and then ran inside! They will have such a great story to tell about this experience! And of course as photographers, we loved every minute.

Once the guests had dried off and greeted the couple, it was time for the reception. The space was beautifully decorated, and guests enjoyed the comfort food provided at dinner by Famous Daves. After speeches and cake, Instant Request got the dance floor pumpin’ with a great mix of music. There were quiet a few…lets just use the word “enthusiastic” dancers that had us in stitches. These college and high school friends were a blast to watch.

Rich and Alissa

Rich and Alissa were married on Friday!

There is really just one word to describe Alissa and Rich…genuine. Every smile, every bit of emotion, every tear, they are kind, funny, smart, and surround themselves with people that fit those descriptors too. They do life well. John and I were laughing the entire time. We had to be on our toes to keep up with this crazy group and their antics. We felt welcomed and invited in, everyone was so warm and whip smart funny. The ceremony, officiated by a friend, was part roast, part stand up comedy routine and part love poem. Even though it was freezing outside, the group had huge smiles on their face and made the most of it. The reception was a raucous lively event full of amazing music, happy tears, and excellent dance moves. Genuine.

The day started at Jungle Red Salon where the girls got ready (and had the most amazing bridal snack set up ever) and at brunch with the groomsmen. The afternoon was spent in and around their wedding venue for an exuberant first look and photographic adventure that took us all over the neighborhood, even ducking into a bar or two to warm up. We shared the day with Kan Corcoran Productions and worked side by side to capture all the love. The couple were super stylish in their attire, Alissa’s gown was from Flutter Boutique, and Rich’s suit came from J Crew.

The ceremony and reception took place at Lowertown Event Center, where the exposed stone and barn wood provided a chic backdrop to the elegant simple floral designs by Luna Vinca. Fun personal style was added with custom place cards designed by Jesse Hughes on hand made wooden stands made by the bride’s father. The fun details also extended to the food, with hot dog appetizers from Brie Cater and milk and cookies from The Buttered Tin for dessert. Instant Request kept the dance lively and we even got to witness an homage to Prince.

A lovely day with a fantastic couple who are so head over heels in love with each other! And now…the pictures. Enjoy!

The ladies danced in the cold to stay warm between portraits. I love Minnesota brides! They are tough cookies in all weather!

When we asked for a sexy picture, this group knew exactly what to do. Nailed it.

Oh yeah, this is at the point where we were in a bar to get warm and we actually expected the groomsmen to put down their beers for a picture.

And then John found THIS LIGHT. YES PLEASE!

The ceremony was a riot. I’ve never laughed so hard…and I’m pretty sure half the jokes went over my head. He even referenced Roadhouse as the prime source for how to make a relationship work. Pretty impressive.

Time to party!

Cu at Rudy’s

Each spring, Rudy’s Event Rentals hosts an open house. But Michelle never does anything simply, so her open houses are more along the lines of super gorgeous party with amazing food and fantastic eye candy. She always displays something completely unexpected and this year was no exception as the entire floor of her shop was covered in grass. She truly brought spring inside, and with the doors wide open and happy music playing, it was just a lovely evening.

La Petite Fleur, Avant Decor and Positively Charmed worked the day before to get the space showroom ready. This year’s theme was “Cu at Rudy’s” based on the rising trend of copper accents in wedding and interior design. Michelle gilded her space and displayed her newest collection of marble and metallic serving pieces. Paper Thick Ink designed the logo and signs, while desserts by Farina Bakery and nosh from Envision Catering and D’Amico Catering looked almost too lovely to eat (but that didn’t stop us from devouring everything). Instant Request kept the party lively with well mixed tunes, the doors let in the delicious spring breeze and all us wedding industry peeps took some time to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Kym and Lynn

Kym and Lynn are the dynamic duo behind one of our favorite wedding vendors, We Cater to You. They have also been in a relationship for 18 years, raising Tanner together and creating a loving generous community of family and friends. Today they were able to be officially married! YAY Minnesota for embracing equality!!! Kym and Lynn were married today!

When someone in the wedding industry gets married, it is always an adventure and includes unique aspects. We were honored to be chosen to be a part of the amazing team that put this wedding together! Lynn and Kym wanted a relaxed day, no portraits, just candid images of friends and family celebrating.

The ceremony was so sweet and full of emotion, to be able to legally marry your true love is a fantastic thing.

The reception took place at Studio 1414 and quite simply knocked our socks off. Avant Decor, Linen Effects, Ultimate Events, Richfield Floral and Instant Request all worked together to create a sparkly dramatic luxe gorgeous space. With custom uplighting and gobos, corner lounge coves, and something gorgeous to look at each way you turned, guests were completely wowed.

Of course the wedding guests enjoyed food by We Cater to You. The ladies chose comfort foods and a relaxed cocktail setting along with fresh delicious desserts.

After speeches, the DJ got the party going with a fantastic mix of dance music. This crowd sure knew how to party!!!

Kym and Lynn may not have wanted posed portraits, but we had to take this one of Tanner…we couldn’t waste the fantastic light, and he is an awesome model!

Oh, and then some real magic happened, and Prowl the Lynx mascot showed up. Since Kym and Lynn and their family LOVE the Lynx, this was an amazing experience. Prowl was hilarious, dancing with Lynn to Whitney Houston, causing antics with the guests, getting distracted by the decor (I mean, Prowl IS a cat afterall), and even doing some guest DJing.

Bridget and Samantha

Bridget and Samantha were married today!

Samantha grew up sailing, and chose a beautiful little island in Lake Minnetonka for the wedding venue. However, good ole Minnesota decided to change those plans with threats of severe thunderstorms. Sam and Bridget along with all their fabulous vendors took the weather in stride and moved the location to Pique Travel‘s event space in Excelsior. The team of Event Lab and the owners of The 110 North Loop Loft made this new venue look like it was always meant to be the location! As the pastor put it, “we couldn’t get you all to the yacht club, so we brought the yacht club to you!” And it looked amazing, draped with nautical bunting and styled in navy blue and crisp white.

I absolutely love when couples get ready together, there is something so sweet and tender about those moments.

Samantha knows the weather well, having a sailor’s intuition. She told us we had only a little while before the rain came, and we took her seriously! We also took advantage of the rustic outbuildings near Pique. Our job was easy for us since the brides were just glowing!

The wedding party looked pretty fancy, let me tell you. They handled this serious pose like a boss.

and there is nothing cuter than catching the flower girl twirling away!

The thunder got louder and Sam said we had only a few minutes more before the sky opened up, so we headed back to the venue and the brides raced the rain back inside…they JUST made it!

Guests gathered, got their champagne, and settled into the cozy space for the touching ceremony. It was emotional, sweet, and very personal. The brides’ vows were beautiful, and one of their readings was “I Like You” one of our favorites.

During the cocktail hour and reception, guests hopped outside for games in between bouts of rain and enjoyed amazing food by Lunds and Byerlys. Nautical flags were used as a seating chart and guests signed a life preserver as the guest book. Model sailboats showed the table numbers, and luxurious navy blue linens gussied up the tables.

After dinner, the ladies had their first dance, and then Instant Request started the party right…playing Whitney’s Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. Which, in this photographer’s humble opinion, is how EVERY dance should start. The dance floor was jumping, and it was tough for John and I to keep up with all the antics. Though I think the world stood still when Sam’s cousin channeled her inner Tina Turner and danced “Rollin’ on the River” to perfection.
