The other day I photographed the Seren and Sage team. They needed head shots for their new website. As with any head shots, you want them to be clean, approachable, and to show personality. I think we easily covered all those requirements with these images! I truly enjoyed getting to know these ladies and getting both serious and goofy portraits of them.
Gypsy in the Woods
Dani Tietjen is a blogger, author, mother, wife, inspirational speaker, and missionary. She travels all over the US speaking to youth and church groups about love, mercy and identity. Her blog is full of anecdotes about her life and she has such a generous heart. She also really loves dressing up…and twirling…and reading…and laughing…and we did pretty much all of these things for her website photoshoot yesterday.
Dani came up with a great theme of creating a pretty little reading nook in the woods. When she was done creating the set, I immediately thought of the word “gypsy”. And that word fits her, she is creative, grows a lot of her own food, creates all kinds of art, has a homespun natural twist to her designs, and likes a slightly weathered well worn look to her furniture. She did a fantastic job, and I was so excited to photograph all of the details!
She hired Brett Dorrian to come and doll her up, and we had a fun time in my studio getting ready. She did an amazing job on Dani, emphasizing her gorgeous eyes and giving her hair lots of texture and interest. Then Dani got into her SKIRT. Holy moley, you’ll just have to look at the pictures…
At the end of the shoot, I asked her to just twirl and have fun in her gorgeous skirt, and I love the results =)
What a fantastic session! Dani, I hope you enjoy your sneak peek! Thank you for letting me be a part of this creative process!
Headshots
This week I had two headshot sessions. I enjoy doing headshots, the subjects are comfortable in front of the camera and we get to play with expressions and angles. And these two ladies both know how to work a camera! The first images are for acting headshots and the second are for an author to use on her blog and books.
If you ever have the need for headshots, sessions are an hour long at either the studio or on location and can be as simple or complex as you would like!
Headshots with Personality
Mallory braved the cold for a portrait session today! She wanted non studio head shots, something fun and easy going, just like her. She also wanted to include trees and some texture into the backgrounds, so the Sculpture Garden was the perfect location. While there were a ton of photographers inside getting shots, we had the outdoors all to ourselves (maybe because it was 25 degrees?) 😉
One of the keys of a good portrait is having the subject be relaxed and comfortable. Mallory is a natural at having her portrait taken, so we were able to get a good variety of great shots in a short amount of time. We wanted images that spanned from “I’m fun to work with!” to “I’m very thoughtful and responsible” to “I’m an expert in my field”. Having more than one style of headshot can be really helpful to the application process.
After the offical images were done, we did a few just for fun shots!
Here you are, Mallory, enjoy your sneak peek!
All Smiles
Martha will be speaking in front of quite a large crowd at a conference next month, and was a little anxious to have head shots taken in time. Have no fear, Studio Laguna is here!
Step one for an easy breezy portrait session…feel like a million bucks. DONE. Brett Dorrian Artistry Studios gave Martha a natural, healthy look at all the confidence that she would look stunning in her portraits.
Step two…SMILE! I think Martha has this one down =)
Step three…have a good time and stay relaxed. We were all jokes and smiles, enjoying the gorgeous evening in St Paul. I think my favorite comment Martha made was when I showed her one of the images and she said, “oh wow, it looks like I’ve written a book or something!” She was such a hoot to work with.
Martha, here is your sneak peek of images, enjoy!
