We got to shoot an amazing wedding today. Nick and Maren got married!
I met with Nick, Maren and their families at the farm last year and have been looking forward to their big day ever since. Barns, vintage, antiques, thistles, a bride that loves photography, what more can a gal ask for? I knew this would be photography heaven, and it sure was! Nick and Maren were blessed with absolutely perfect weather and had their ceremony outdoors overlooking the hills and fields of the Wisconsin countryside. The couple was all grins during the ceremony, and Maren practically skipped to Nick when it was time for their first kiss.
Maren’s mom and dad did a lot of the decor themselves. They made fabulous chandaliers out of found wire and strung them along the beams of the barn, and used skeleton keys for each of the place settings which were displayed on gorgeous weathered wood. The families also hung antique mirrors along the walls to reflect light and add sparkle to the room. Maren’s mom did all of the flowers, using purple thistles as the main element with a supporting cast of green hydrangeas, birch branches and other greenery. No detail was left undone and this wedding was almost all DIY…even the dessert, yummy chocolate chip cookies, were made by the aunts.
After a delicious meal provided by Valley Bar and Grille, it was time for the speaches. And by the time best friends were done reminiscing and Maren’s parents recited words of love, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. It takes a graceful art to bring your listeners to tears and end on a “that’s what she said!” joke…and Maren’s brothers’ speach delivered to perfection. Guests needed to recover after that emotional rollercoaster, so they headed outside to enjoy the gorgeous evening, have a beer, and watch Maren and Nick launch a balloon bouquet into the sky honoring Nick’s grandparents. Then it was time to party! DJ Tony Weslander played to an absolutely packed and energetic dancefloor (it was pretty hard to leave everyone was having such a good time!).
Nick and Maren, it was an absolute pleasure being a part of your day! Here are a few of our favorite images, enjoy =)
