ILEA Star Awards – 2017

Last week I was one of the photographers asked to photograph the 2017 Star Awards, hosted by the Twin Cities chapter of ILEA. The title of this year’s ceremony was Unluckiest Bash, and the designers took the theme to fruition…from guests having to enter the Machine Shop under a ladder to CRAVE Catering having some last minute “malfunctions” and delivering “takeout” to the guests. All of the artwork was drawn by local artist Steph Guidera and then painstakingly recreated larger scale by the Girl Friday team.

Enticing Entertainment once again rocked the event, new surprises at every turn. And I loved the table decor from Rocket Science! Hints of macabre laced with whimsy, and everything in black and white. It truly was a feast for the eyes!

My favorite edible was from Create Catering…black risotto with pan seared scallops. Truly decadent, and picture perfect, too, complete with a lucky four leaf clover!

2013 ISES Star Awards – Steampunk

Being asked to photograph an event thrown by a society of event specialists is both exhilarating and daunting…and the Minnesota Star Awards is like the event industry’s prom. So lets just say it is always over the top and amazing. So lets just also say that I was really excited and a teensy bit nervous to be a part of it this year…and then I found out the theme was Steampunk and I was over the moon excited as this is my favorite aesthetic!

This year’s awards show took place at Heroic Productions, a creative versatile event space in Bloomington. The design team transformed the space into four rooms that individually focused on different aspects of steampunk, from vintage, to edgy, to romantic. All of the designs incorporated gears, metal, and quirky details…the essence of steampunk.

Indulge and Bloom did a lovely job with the floral design!

The awards ceremony had a couple entertainment breaks, which were fabulous!

After the ceremony more food came out, tribal drum beats could be heard in the after party room, and things became a wild ruckus!

And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg! Two things the Star Awards prove… 1) event professionals love to have a good time and 2) there is a LOT of talent in Minnesota! This party was so beautiful, creative, entertaining and over the top! Enjoy the sneak peek!

Aria at The Jeune Lune

Back in college, I loved going to Theater de la Jeune Lune in the North Loop. It was such a fantastic space, and when it closed, it was such a sad event. So I was very excited when a friend told me that Jeune Lune was being reborn as a wedding and event space called Aria.

Tonight was the open house for local industry folks to view the space. It is very industrial, and you are surrounded by three stories of stone walls and alcoves. The space itself can hold about 1000 people or 700 seated for dinner. It still has the stage and other elements that made this place so unique as well as a side room that has sparkling chandaliers and a long harvest table for smaller events. With caterers on their list including Fabulous Catering, Create Catering, D’Amico and Chowgirls Killer Catering, you know the food will be amazing as well.

The space is pretty bare bones, so clients will get to exercise their imaginations dressing the space up. For tonight’s open house Adagio showed how lighting could dramatically change the walls with a wash of color. There was an exclusivity contract at the event so I’m not able to post pictures of the space, but I know Sally from La Vie Photography got some gorgeous shots that you can feast your eyes on! The website also has images from two events in it’s gallery. I am so excited to see what people do in the future with this venue!
