Last week, Studio Laguna was asked to photograph The Wedding Guys‘ Unveiled Wedding Event.

Photographing a place where vendors have gone all out showcasing the latest wedding trends is like being a kid in a candy store. It was a blast to photograph, and we tried to use unique angles and lighting to really tell the story of this fair. Unveiled is produced with top notch quality, and that showed in every little detail. Ready for some lovely images? Here they are!

The gown gallery was double sided this time, so brides could get a 360 view of these dream dresses.

This season’s Unveiled was themed “Gumdrop”. The element of sugar was used everywhere, so there was a lot of sparkle.

The tabletop gallery gave us four gorgeous reception looks, from napa vineyard to Alice In Wonderland.

Only the Wedding Guys would bring a fountain into the space! This reception set up was simply gorgeous.

Entertainment included a ballroom couple that performed on So You Think You Can Dance.

Mestads brought a full bridal salon to the fair. Ladies were allowed to try on gowns and see the latest designs.

The highlight of the day is always the fashion show. Lili Salon Spa not only got the models ready but gave bridal parties mini makeovers.

Though the strapless A-line gown was still very present in the fashion show, I was so happy to see straps and sleeves (yay sleeves!), illusion backs, and a lot of sparkles and texture. Many of these gowns have not even reached the stores yet. They were all stunning.

Bridal Portrait Session

Today I did my first ever Bridal Session.

In the south, especially Texas, it is a custom to have the bride pose for a formal portrait in her full bridal ensemble before her wedding day. At the reception, a large print is displayed. It reminds me of the times when the lady of the house had a grand portrait painted and hung in the sitting room.

On July 30th, Leslie will be marrying her Matt, but today, she arrived at the Walker Art Center all dolled up in her wedding best. Of course, it was the most humid day on record EVER in Minnesota…so humid, in fact, that I had to let my camera acclimate and you could see the dew in the air. However, Leslie looks fresh as a daisy in all of her images and I just LOVED her big brown eyes. She was truly a vision in her Monique Lhuillier gown and veil, and got to give her Badgley Mischka heels a test drive. Richfield Flowers even lent Leslie a bouquet to complete the look.

Leslie and her mom wanted images that were crisp, clean and modern. We chose the Walker and I loved playing with the white on white color scheme. Shooting with a bright white background (called high key) can be tricky with a white dress, but the texture of Leslie’s gown really photographed well. I chose to use more natural light and less flash so the light would fall nicely along her silhouette.

A bridal portrait session can be a neat way to get the more fashion forward images you’d like in your gown without taking time away from the wedding day. Leslie and Matt aren’t seeing each other before the wedding, so our portrait time is going to be fairly short. By having this seperate session, she gets the best of both worlds and on the wedding day, we can focus more on romantic images of the happy couple.

Semple Mansion Bridal Fair

Today I photographed Brett Dorrian Artistry Studios in action. The team was hard at work dolling up the models for two fashion shows in the Grand Palladian Ballroom. The fashion show I photographed was for Andrea’s Vintage Bridal. I love how Brett used the heritage of the model’s gown to inspire the makeup and hair. There were iconic images of women from the 20’s to the 80’s in the room where everyone was getting ready to serve as inspiration, and the models looked amazing. To compliment the looks, Adagio paired each model with music for their era, it was so fun to see each model come down the runway and have a blast from the past.

Any time I’m in the Semple Mansion I HAVE to stop by Posh Bridal Couture and Paperista. Any interior design lover will just flip over how amazingly chic these spaces are, and of course everyone will appreciate how fabulous the owners are =) Posh’s gorgeous dresses also have a new addition. Luxe is a gown company that focuses on gorgeous plus sized dresses, which is a concept I truly appreciate.

Up in the ballroom were many familiar friends including The Traveling Photobooth, We Cater to You, and Chowgirls Catering. I was also able to finally meet the talent behind A Day in Provence. I simply loved the booth and the creative elements in the floral designs! I also made sure to visit Floral Logic’s space. I have always admired Eric’s designs and it was fun to chat with him for a while.

The find of the day is a new company that I am very excited about. Lime Canary Vintage Rentals. Amanda started collecting vintage pieces for her own wedding and decided to open a business dedicated to rentals for vintage weddings, events, theater, and staging. I think this is a fantastic idea and I will definitely be using her services in the future.
