Today I ventured over to St Paul for a family session. Since the day was pretty blustery, we stayed indoors most of the time, which was great considering Andrew and Jaclyn’s offices are a photographer’s dream! Using the bright furniture throughout their spaces, we got a lot of variety of backdrops for the kids.

Such cute kiddos!!!

At the end, we did venture out to utilize the gorgeous carpet of leaves.

Among the Prairie Grass

Stuart and Shannon had their family session today! I’ve been photographing them for years and they have become fabulous friends…watching their family grow has been such a treat! We went to Shannon’s happy place, the prairie, for their family portraits tonight. As with any time little ones are being photographed, everyone looking at the camera with a smile is a rare treat…

…the goofy faces are more typical. We got both!

Look at these cuties!

The kids weren’t necessarily feeling the “happy sibling” portraits…

…so we opted for action shots instead. Go mom!

Ramblin’ Rose

I had the absolute honor of photographing little Rose’s birth last year, to see her now walking and talking and laughing is such a joy! And even though the very first thing she did during the session was face plant and cut her lip, she recovered quickly and had had a blast playing with Dada and Mama. This family is so special to me, so full of love and happiness…Rose is a lucky little gal to be a part of it!

We found this glorious red and orange tree which matched Rose’s sweater and tried to get it in some portraits…but this little girl did NOT want to stand still, she was constantly on the go!

Wallace and His Family

We have had the pleasure of working with Julie on Craig and Jason’s wedding and were honored that she asked us to photograph her family this weekend! Julie grew up in a farm town and her girls love being in the big outdoors so she really wanted to come up to the farm and have a fun adventure. We started off with a few images of the girls and a walk to the creek.

There is something just magical about sitting in the warm prairie grass (multiple years of no mowing leaves a very nice comfy bed!) and being in the stillness of nature.

Dad is a musician, and got a couple headshots done as well.

When the light started to mellow out, we headed back into the fields for family portraits. Wallace joined us, and kind of stole the show. If you said “picture!” or “camera!” he totally posed!

Run! Run free!

Since they own two original Grant Wood paintings, it only made sense that we do our own modern day version of American Gothic.

“Wallace! Picture!” Seriously, he is the cutest.

Autumn Family Session

James and his parents had their family session this evening! We are enjoying such a gorgeous autumn in Minnesota, and used gorgeous red sumac and prairie grass as our backdrop today.

Getting a toddler to sit still for portraits is definitely not for the faint of heart. The adults wanted cute “toddler sitting in tiny chair” pictures…

…and James wanted to RUN AND BE FREE!!!!

We did manage to trap him in some prairie grass long enough to sing Wheels on the Bus and get a smile out of him, and from then on it was just play time.
