A little while ago I did a fashion shoot for Glow Bar. The shoot was designed by Girl Friday and the ladies wore clothing and accessories from Covered. Hair and makeup was done by Melanie Rivers Beauty and Sarah Elizabeth Artistry. I wanted the shoot to have a relaxed feel while still showing off the ladies’ beautiful tans and glamorous fashion.
Today I photographed Katniss Everdeen. Well, it was actually the Pink Dalek as Mini Katniss…but pretty much the same thing. I did some location scouting and tried to design the portraits with a very capital feel. “Chins UP! Smiles ON!”
This costume was created by Marie Porter, the Queen of Spandex and Evil Costume Overlord. Marie has an amazing eye for detail and puts so much time into each of her work. There are many a happy coplayers out there already wearing her designs. Marie even surprised Mini Katniss with an appearance by Caesar Flickerman!
We had so much fun using color and shadow to create these portraits, it was a great collaboration.
Being a model is tough work!
All Alanna wanted to do was spin…so at the end of the shoot, we just let her rock that gown!

Yesterday I had a fabulous shoot at The Vintage Type. Girl Friday and Lulu Paint Design styled quite a few different looks for Lulu’s new business Gypsy Mint. Gypsy Mint is a stencil company that has designs so fashion forward it will take DIY to a whole new level! Using The Vintage Type’s extensive inventory and huge windows, the ladies created a natural light studio and sets that let these patterned paint applications shine. I love the results!
Today I had a product shoot for Hannah & Hobbes, a boutique soap company.
Hannah and Hobbes soaps are produced in small batches, and you can tell the difference on your skin the first time you use them. The ingredients are environmentally conscious and natural, the soaps smell amazing and look almost good enough to eat! And I love the gorgeous graphic design of the packaging. Everything about this company makes me happy =)

Since the soaps are all handmade, customized orders are easy to do. How about some Packers vs Vikings soaps? Or a soap in your company colors with a stamped logo to hand out to favorite clients? Or custom soap favors to give at a wedding? The possibilities are endless.
For the shoot, we wanted to highlight the ingredients as much as the beautiful bars of soap, so it was only natural to photograph the products in Heartland, a local organic farm to table restaurant in St Paul. PS go eat there, it is the best meal I’ve ever had!

Today I had the pleasure of collaborating with Dani Tietjen, Henry Graf and Brett Dorrian to create the cover of More Than a Story…Dani and Henry’s book, published by Mightier Press. I don’t think I can explain this book enough to give it justice, so check out their Indiegogo campaign HERE to learn more about it.
Our shoot took a lot of planing, which thankfully also included a lot of good food and drink, and we put a lot of symbolism into the images. Because of the symbolism and inspiration from old paintings, I decided to shoot the images low key and with the feeling of the old Dutch masters. I LOVE how they turned out!

The shoot took place at Blue Horse Farm, a lovely barn and art space in Wisconsin.
These two are such a dynamic pair that have been speaking together for three years…needless to say, there were a ton of laughs!
We had some serious moments, too…
After the main book cover, they changed and we did a series of headshots and some images for them to use on their speaking tours. Brett had her job cut out for her since the day was so humid, but she kept Dani and Henry looking fabulous.
