Henry was born last week…about a month premature and still seven pounds! He is as cute as a button and his parents are naturals at being mom and dad!
I simply love Henry’s house, one of those classic St Paul homes full of gorgeous woodwork and charm. I loved getting part of his environment in the images as well.
Even when snoozing, Henry made little grunts and coos…he also opened his eyes for a bit, and smirked.
Isn’t he just a doll?
We try to do a “photo shoot” of the kids at least once a year (sometimes we even get to be in them!). We try to think of a theme and over a couple months I scour sales racks to look for clothes that work together. This year, I found the perfect outfits, and wanted a crisp, white location…got the kids all pumped up for pictures with promises of a treat afterwards if they were good, dressed them all up, showed up at the museum…and it was closed. The good news was that this practice run had them totally prepared for the session we did yesterday. We were driving through the gorgeous snowfall and thought it would be perfect for their portraits. So in all of 10 minutes the kids were changed and we were back outside with the promise that if they had a good time Daddy would do donuts in the parking lot in the fresh snow at the end. Here are my favorites!
They wanted to do a serious one, Ainsley said “I have my pose!”
The key to good children’s portraits…get a formal smiley picture first, but then let them have fun!
Time for a few pictures of each kid by themselves…it helps get real smiles out of the kids when both parents are acting like idiots behind the camera.

One of their favorites songs is “If all of the snowflakes were chocolate bars and milkshakes…”
And then we let them throw snowballs at us, they LOVED that!
I can’t even tell you how happy we are that we moved to Minnesota from California…beach pictures would get boring year after year 😉 We LOVE the snow!
Little Geraldine had her newborn portraits tonight.
This little one is incredibly lucky…her parents are so warm and loving and she is going to grow up in such a creative household! Here she is with a handmade blanket and a bassinet felled and carved by her uncle. Seriously, the amount of talent in this family wows me!
Look at that gorgeous head of hair! She was so bright eyed and expressive, especially those little hands.

Dylan had his 9 month portrait session yesterday!
We found a nice cozy corner by the fire for his pictures. Though the tough part about being the second born is that your portrait session usually becomes pictures of you AND your sister…I guess it is good to learn to share the spotlight early!

After years of making silly noises and having her say things like “cheese” or “stinky” we discovered the magic way to get a real smile out of Juliette was her mom saying “super duper reindeer pooper”

Yesterday I had a very energetic and creative portrait session. Every year, we try to find someplace fun for winter pictures, and this time, we chose the very personal location of…home. What is cuter than siblings in their Christmas best decorating their tree? We also played baby birds for a while and had a wild rumpus…good times!
I really love this image, something about the quiet vs the energy. PLUS, how cool is it to have a swing in your house?!?!?
I MAY or MAY NOT have taught the kids to stick their hands at the camera and say “no paparazzi!”
