When I was in college, John and I took a trip to Mexico City.  The point of the trip was to not be tourists, but to learn about the culture, the art, the politics, the reality of life in the heart of the country.  It opened my eyes, it changed my perspective, it made me love travel and learning about cultures other than my own, it instilled a deep passion to pursue humanitarian causes, and it knocked my perception of America (and how other countries view America) on its ear.  While in Mexico City, one of the artists we studied was Frida Kahlo.  She was an amazing painter, a visionary, a feminist role model.  Visiting her home and seeing her work up close along with her husband Diego Rivera’s paintings was such an honor.  I still remember the vivid colors and symbolism in their work.  So when Carly, owner of Girl Friday Creative contacted me with an idea for a wedding styled shoot inspired by Frida and Mexico, I jumped on board immediately.

We teamed up with The Vintage Type, Flutter Boutique, Melanie Rivers Beauty, Ganache, Gypsy Mint and painter Armando Gutierrez to create this vibrant colorful modern styled shoot.  Carly wowed us all with her paper flowers which she used in arrangements as well as in the bride’s hair.  She also created a tissue paper ceremony backdrop with a red and purple chevron pattern which looked amazing in the white brick industrial setting with old schoolhouse wooden chairs.  In an unexpected twist, a wall mural put together by Carly and Armando was created using brightly colored sticky notes!  And the fun extras didn’t end there.  A globe guest book, a metallic stenciled rug, and such creative uses of paper to add punch to the visuals.  This shoot is bold and bright, modern and fun, and very unique.  I’m incredibly proud of these images and am excited for you to explore them!  I hope it inspires all kinds of creativity!

A panter’s palette of bright colors were used throughout this shoot.  Bold red and purple combinations as well as a rainbow of pinks, oranges and yellows made all the details pop against white walls.  I was immediately ready for spring looking through these!!!

Metallic accents help tie together the modern and vintage.

The Vintage Type’s schoolhouse chairs and white brick walls create a bright neutral backdrop so the custom tissue paper ceremony focal point can properly pop.  PS how cute are our bride and groom?!?!  I normally use real couples for my shoots, but for this one we used two pros.  Ian and Jill were wonderful to work with and created a fantastic chemistry.

Check out these paper flowers and patterned wraps.  Easy ways to add color and interest without breaking the bank.  I also loved how Carly layered all the textures, colors, patterns and finishes.

   

We were also allowed to shoot in Armando’s studio, which was an amazing treat!!!  We took full advantage of the bright colors.

I love doing wedding styled shoots because of results like this.  Something completely unique and creative, fun and inspiring.  I hope you enjoyed all the eye candy!
