Sarah and Katie were married today!
The outpouring of awesomeness from this couple hit us the moment we met, then later when they sent us a sketch of two cat photographers, throughout all our email exchanges, and when we asked them to come up with a few words to describe their wedding party and they reply with “otherworldly” and “vaguely threatening”. Full of humor and love, Sarah and Katie invited us into their lives whole heartedly, and we were honored to tell the story of their wedding day.
We started off with portraits around their favorite places in Minneapolis. Being both Cinco de Mayo and only the second warm weekend of spring, everybody was out and about, and we just loved witnessing Minneapolis cheer for and celebrate our fantastic brides.
It got up to 75 degrees, so….ice cream. SO worth the wait.
While us photographers were celebrating the clouds giving us lovely light, we couldn’t help but notice they were becoming pretty ominous as we drove to Como Conservatory. As the lightning flashed and we witnessed a wall of dust roar towards us, we ducked indoors to wrap up portraits.
The wedding party was definitely ready to…party.
Right before the ceremony the rain let up enough for a moment outside to enjoy the breeze. Then it was time to get married!
Every ceremony needs a Storm Trooper ring bearer!
Weaving pieces of pagan traditions and words, the ceremony was heartfelt and emotional. The handfasting ceremony was simple, yet had such impact. The officiant asked a series of questions about how the couple intended to treat and care for each other, and after each answer, bound their hands with a length of ribbon. There was a rhythm and weight to the ritual that created such a meaningful moment.
Speeches, and a delicious meal were followed by dances honoring the brides parents and then each other. So many happy tears! So much LOVE. Whew! After all that emotion, it was time to party! And one thing we have learned about this group of friends is that they know how to have a good time!
Katie and Sarah, it was simply an honor to be a part of your day today. Enjoy your sneak peek!!!
