Today I photographed a fun event, Brew at the Zoo.
The Minnesota Zoo opened up Discovery Bay, Russia’s Grizzly Coast, and the Penguins of the African Coast spaces for guests to walk around after hours. In the main outdoor space there were dozens of beer distributers giving out samples of their beers. From the most obscure ipas, to local favorites, to the big players, people could enjoy generous samplings and chat about the brewing process.
Wild Blue, a blueberry lager that was sweet and crisp but still had a kick, was the grassroots favorite…word quickly spread about the purple beer. I also enjoyed Surly‘s Hell, and Brau Brothers’ MooJoos. Along with beer, there was some Minnesota comfort food (pulled pork sandwiches and beans) as well as live music performed by Trent Shaw’s Trainwreck and Martin Zellar and the Hardways.
It was a nice night to walk around the zoo, and the animals were more awake towards dusk. The zoo keepers were out to chat about the different animals and call them to the glass. I watched the newborn monkies for way too long and enjoyed watching a keeper call to one of the leopards and interact with her. And my favorite part was watching the dolphins, of course. If you haven’t been the zoo in a while, they are undergoing a very impressive facelift. The architecture of the new entrance is lovely. Be sure to sign up for their zoo news so you’re in the loop for cool events like this in the future!
Here are a few images, enjoy =)
